Peechinga Chira Rejuvenation
Vadavucode – Puthencruz, Ernakulam, Kerala

Statement
An underused neighbourhood water body is transformed into a vibrant community waterfront on the peri-urban edge of Kochi. Anchored by an existing temple and mature tropical canopy, the scheme wraps the pond with a jogging track, timber decks and pavilions for yoga and gathering, while ecological restoration — desilting, water treatment and rain gardens — renews the pond as living blue-green infrastructure.

Design Strategy
The pond, framed by a temple, Anganwadi and mature canopy, is the community's principal open space — the design extends the temple's public realm to the water's edge.
A 3 m jogging track rings the pond as the primary pedestrian loop, stepping down to timber decks set 1.5 m below ground level for close waterfront contact.
Desilting, algae removal, aeration and repaired retaining walls restore water quality, while rain gardens and native planting reinforce the blue-green network.
Coloured-concrete track, hardwood / WPC decking, stone masonry edges and timber-and-tile pavilions preserve the Kerala bathing-ghat character.
